In the 2000s, Atlanticlux marketed products with a guaranteed benefit at the end of the contract.
A guaranteed benefit requires a financial environment in which bond yields are sufficiently high – an environment that no longer exists. Today, interest rates are much lower.
For this reason, the share of premiums paid net of costs in the fund built to cover the guarantee has been increased, reducing the share of investments in equity funds, which, against a higher level of risk, can generate higher returns. In some cases, the total amount of premiums paid net of costs was completely shifted to low-interest bonds.
